The heart of the country is Lake Issyk-Kul — one of the largest and deepest alpine lakes in the world, ringed by the Tian Shan mountains. No less impressive is Ala-Archa, a national park near Bishkek with waterfalls, alpine meadows and snowy peaks.
Historic sites such as the Burana Tower — the legacy of the ancient city of Balasagun — and the Tash-Rabat caravanserai keep the memory of the Great Silk Road. A special place belongs to Son-Kul and Sary-Chelek, mountain lakes of singular beauty and seclusion.
Kyrgyzstan is a land where you can feel the breath of centuries, touch nomad traditions and savour the grandeur of some of the most untouched nature in the world.
The flag was approved on 3 March 1992 by a resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
The flag was created by a group of artists led by Erkin Maldybaev. It is a red field featuring a yellow sun with forty rays, inside which is a tündük—the upper part of a yurt—symbolizing the unity of the people and the family hearth.
The emblem was approved on 14 January 1994 by a resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The authors are Bekbolot Süyörkulov and Ezhen Düchebaev, the artists who developed its modern design. The emblem symbolizes Kyrgyzstan's natural wealth, independence, and peaceful character, depicting Issyk-Kul, the Tian Shan mountains, an eagle, and the rising sun.
The anthem was approved by a resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan dated 18 December 1992.
The lyrics were written by the poets Zhypar Isabekov and Shabdanbek Kulubaev. The music was composed by Nasyr Davlesov and Kalyi Moldobasanov. The anthem reflects love for the Motherland, pride in independence, and the Kyrgyz people's aspiration for a bright future.
